Solution : The error lies in the first part of the sentence.

The general rule states that "shall" is used in the first person, whereas "will" is used in all other cases. When we convert the sentence into reported speech , shall should be replaced with the auxiliary verb would to make the sentence grammatically accurate.

The correct sentence should be: "Susan said that she would try to attempt the task to the best of her ability".
