Hi,
The biggest difference between sun and planets is that sun is a star while palbetd are not. All the planets are created from sun. The sun is a hydrogen ball while other planets are not. The reason is that they are created by the left over material of sun. Even the biggest planet, Jupiter can't ignite mini sun.

Sun is nothing but a star , it is a heavenly body that has its own light, its position changes but due to substantial distance, which you can see only after a long time , it is very hot and is quite big in size whereas planets are celestial objects, which move around a star ( sun in case of solar system in an elliptical orbit , they don't have their own light, they revolve around the sun,they have vey low temperature when compared to sun .

Sun is s star having the ongoing process of H-He conversion called nuclear fusion. Which eventually releases much heat and gives sun the shine and light we experience here at earth.

Earth is a planet made up of rocks and revolving around the sun. Many stars in our galaxy have many planets revolving around them due to their gravitational pull. Earth do not have light of its own and hence depends upon sun for its light.
