Dear Student,
This chapter is in 11th class and is also included in the syllabus of JEE Mains as well as in JEE Advance. Also from this chapter generally 2 questions come in JEE Mains paper. And 1 question surely comes in JEE Advance .So this chapter has a good weightage.
To have a good hold on this chapter you must follow some good maths books like Coordinate geometry by Cengage , RD Sharma etc.
Also to check the whole syllabus and weightage of each chapter in JEE Mains you can visit the link given below.

Hope this helps .
Straight line is a very important chapter of section coordinate geometry.
And it ia the basic of coordinate geometry. Without the in-depth research knowledge of this chapter you can't move forward in coordinate geometry.
And as per syllabus for jee, then yes, it is in the syllabus for both jee mains and jee advanced.
And in jee advanced there will be a good use of straight lines. Maybe in jee advanced you don't get to see a direct question of straight lines but you will see an indirect use of straight lines in other chapters of coordinate geometry. And there can be a direct question from homogeneity concept in jee advanced.
And in jee mains there can be 1 or 2 direct questions of straight lines.
So, don't ever try to leave this chapter behind as it is the base of coordinate geometry.
Now ncert is just for boards and you will only find the jee mains syllabus for maths in ncert and even practicing the complete ncert you cannot crack jee mains.
so, for getting the complete syllabus of coordinate geometry especially for jee advanced and main refer cengage coordinate geometry book.
Also you can practice Coordinate geometry by SL Loney. but please remember that SL LONEY has many topics which are out of syllabus of jee advanced. so please practice Sl Loney under the guidance of a jee advanced mentor who would tell that what exercise you should do from Sl loney. Otherwise refer the cengage coordinate geometry book for syllabus for jee advanced.
And for straight lines, you will get all the latest and updated and low to high level questions with in-depth concept of every topics in cengage coordinate geometry book. and this book is very beneficial for jee advanced as well as jee mains.
Just practice all question ( solved + unsolved ) from this book and definitely you will get the good command in coordinates geometry including jee mains.
I too was also an jee advanced aspirant and i have cracked it, so I am telling you on my experience and the real life examples.
So, if you want a good rank, then solve your modules and if your module has a huge collection of questions for a single chapter, then it's good.
And if you solve your module then you can directly switch to question from cengage book. because for a good command of any chapter, at least you have to solve 2000 or 3000 questions from that chapter.
So, if you have module and you know the concepts, then you can attempt your modules first. And if you lack concepts then, refer cengage book first and solve the examples, concept application exercises, single choice correct, multi choice correct, paragraph type question, match the following and integer tyoe problem. you can only touch the subjective question when you get a full command in a chapter.
In simple words, I will advice that solve boththe things simultaneously, but if you have knowledge of chapter and your concepts are clear and strong, then give priority to your module which is of jee mains and jee advanced level, so regulatory complete your home works given by your coaching teachers. Otherwise strengthen or build your concept first by cengage book or by your coaching teacher.
And I have heard about lakhsya institute, so I need not to google it.
So, if you want your boards to be good then definitely solve the ncert book. But these board exams and jee advanced or jee mains are totally different thing. Many of the board rankers are not able to open their score in jee advanced.
So, even if you belong from maharashtra board, then believe me, after solving cengage, you will not want to touch the ncert book. Because in cengage book you will solve all sorts of question even the ncert questions. And for all state boards or cbse boards, the ncert syllabus is nearly same.
So, if you will solve cengage book your ncert book will automatically gets covered up. And believe me once you gain concept and techniques to solve questions from cengage, you can even make the same question in a descriptive manner for boards or short for objective exams. And your boards exams will not be a big deal after that.
