Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a great freedom fighter, scholar, and the first President of independent India. He was born on December 3, 1884, in Ziradei village of Siwan district, Bihar. From his childhood, he was known for his intelligence, discipline, and deep moral values. He completed his early education in his village and later pursued law from Calcutta University, where he stood first in his class and earned great respect for his brilliance.
Before joining politics, he worked as a lawyer in the Calcutta and Patna High Courts, but his heart was drawn towards the freedom movement. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Salt Satyagraha. His humility and dedication made him one of Gandhi’s most trusted followers.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad played a key role in the Indian National Congress and later became the President of the Constituent Assembly, helping to draft the Indian Constitution. After India gained independence, he was elected as the first President of India in 1950, serving with great dignity and honesty.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1962 for his immense contribution to the nation. After retiring, he lived a simple life in Patna and passed away on February 28, 1963. His life remains a shining example of patriotism, humility, and service to the country.
