There's no easy steps when it comes to becoming IPS officer, you can choose any field after 10th or 12th because in UPSC it doesn't matter which field you've completed your graduation as long as it's from recognized university, there's not even requirement of minimum aggregate. You need to attain 21 years age and can apply even in the final year of graduation.Cracking UPSC is a tough task, with each passing year, competition is increasing, so planning and preparation are what matters eventually,in this case the sooner you start, the better because the syllabus of UPSC is extensive.
The few things you can do to begin preparation is be acquainted with syllabus, start reading The Hindu on a daily basis, start with NCERT and then move towards standard books, solve previous year paper, mock tests to evaluate your progress, practicing answer writing in advance is a must.
