EWS cota for jee mains and criteria for issue of EWS certificate
From 2019 , The Indian Government allowed the use of EWS quota in JEE Mains seat matrix. Basically EWS is supernumeric to the General Seats which accounts to 10% of reservation. Suppose earlier an institute had 10 seats for General category, then if EWS is applicable then the total seats will be 11( 10 percent of 10 is 1 ,which means 1 extra seat exclusively for EWS candidates). Benefits of it includes exemption of Tution fees in GFTIs or NITs etc. and less cutoff compared to UR.
There are certain points to be held in mind for getting an EWS certificate.
1) Family income less than 8 Lakhs per year(show form 16/income certificate)
2)Must not own 5 acres or more of ownership land.
3)The residential flat/house should be below 1000 sql ft
4) Doesnot fall under SC/ST/OBC categories
5)Residential plot less than 100/200 sq. Yards
if you fulfil the above mentioned requirements you can apply online for a ews certificate or from local govt.authority/tehsil.
Thats it,the process is simple ., just need to upload scanned images of the above mentioned requirements.
