There is no particular time to start the preparation for the entrance exam like GATE. If you really want to crack the entrance exam, be the early bird. Yes, it always good to start your preparation as early as possible. It will give you enough time to clear your concept and revise the matter you have studied.

According to the toppers,  a fresher, you start the preparation in its 6 semester, while in case of graduate it will differ. Further, they believe that to crack GATE, one needs to have an effective self-study of around  30 to 40 hours. However, for you it will be best to study as per your daily goals set up set up you.
