explain human environment adjustments in different environmental conditions
Answer (1)
Hello,
Humans have been known to adapt in different environment change millions of years and that is why today we are the most powerful species through evolution the power of adaptation has helped to sustain every environmental change.
Humans may respond to environmental stress or change in four different ways -adaptation, developmental adjustment, acclimatization, and cultural responses.
Adaptation- The adaptationis a genetically-based trait that has evolved because it helps living things survive and reproduce in a given environment.Adaptations come about through natural selection which was also explained by Charles Darwin.
Developmental Adjustment - It takes a relatively long time for genetic change in response to environmental stress to produce a population with adaptations. Luckily humans can adjust to some environmental stresses more quickly by changing in non - genetic ways. One type of nongenetic response to stress isdevelopmental adjustment. This refers to phenotypic change that occurs during development in infancy or childhood, and that may persist into adulthood. This type of change may be irreversible by adulthood.
Cultural Responses - More than any other species, we humans can respond to environmental stresses with learned behaviors and technological advancement. These cultural responses allow us to change our environments to control stresses, rather than changing our bodies genetically or physiologically to cope with the stresses. For example, Neanderthals(one of our ancestors) used shelters, fires, and animal hides as clothing to stay warm in the cold climate in Europe during the last ice age.
Acclimatization- It generally develops over a relatively short period of time. It may take just a few days or weeks to attain a maximum response to a stress. The development of reversible changes to environmental stress is called acclimatization.A common example of acclimatization is tanning of the skin
I hope this helps.
