Explain the religious reform among sikkhsim.
Hi there
The establishment of the Khalsa College in Amritsar at the end of the 19th century marked the beginning of Sikh religious reform.
The Punjabi Akali Movement emerged around 1920. The Akalis' primary goal was to clean up the administration of the gurudwaras, or Sikh temples.
Devout Sikhs had generously donated land and money to these gurudwaras. However, unscrupulous and egotistical mahants had come to rule them in an authoritarian manner.
In 1921, the Sikh masses, led by the Akalis, launched a significant Satyagraha against the mahants and the government that aided them.
A new Sikh Gurudwara Act was swiftly passed in 1922 as a result of the Akalis' pressure, and it was later revised in 1925.
