Gametogenesis is process of gamete formation. Meiosis is the process of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes.

To maintain the constant chromosome number over generations, gametogenesis occurs through meiosis to produce haploid gametes.

That's how meiosis and gametogenesis are always linked.
