The Wodeyar dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Mysore for several centuries. The dynasty was founded by Yaduraya Wodeyar in 1399. Initially, the Wodeyars were feudatories of the Vijayanagara Empire. After the decline of Vijayanagara, Mysore became an independent kingdom under their rule.
