The UGC NET examination consists of two papers conducted in a single session , carrying a total of 300 marks . Both papers are conducted in computer-based mode, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Exam Pattern

Paper 1

• Common for all candidates regardless of their subject.

• Assesses teaching aptitude, research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, communication skills, data interpretation, ICT, environment, and higher education system concepts.

• Contains 50 compulsory questions carrying 2 marks each.

Paper 2

• Based on the subject selected by the candidate.

• Covers in-depth knowledge of the chosen discipline from among the subjects offered in UGC NET.

• Contains 100 compulsory questions carrying 2 marks each.

• Total Questions: 150

• Total Marks: 300

• Duration: 3 hours

• Mode of Examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

• Marking Scheme: +2 marks for every correct answer
