For doing executive MBA , is it necessary to do MBA first??
No, Executive MBA is for those people who have some work experience earlier. So no need to do MBA first in order to do Executive MBA.
Hope this clarified your doubt
Hi Harleen ,
Before I answer your question , let me first clear it out for you what an MBA degree is and how it is different from an Executive MBA degree. An MBA degree is a degree that is designed to give one the knowledge of how to manage a business or a company effectively. It covers several specialisations like Finance , Marketing , Human Resources etc. A regular full time MBA degree program takes two years to complete until and unless one is taking a part time MBA program where the candidate is studying and working simultaneously , where the duration of the program is more than two years generally. An Executive MBA program is designed for professionals in the business world who have had managerial or entrepreneurship roles and have more than five years of work experience. Some B schools also accept candidates in their Executive MBA program with minimum of two years of work experience . An Executive MBA is designed to educate these working professionals in the field of management so that the degree may help them grow in their career.
Now for joining an MBA program , a candidate requires these minimum eligibility criteria . These are as follows :-
1) Any Bachelor's degree ( the duration of the degree must be a minimum of 3 years )with atleast 50% marks from an accredited university. (Each B school have their own requirements regarding the minimum percentage ). The candidate must also have scores in their class 10+ 2 exams that meet the criteria set by the B school.
2)Must have a valid score of a B school entrance tests like CAT , GMAT , XAT etc. (Please check which test scores the particular B school is accepting before applying )
3)Some B schools also require work experience like the B schools abroad ( Eg. Harvard ). Here the candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of work experience. Some B schools also ask for atleast 3 years of work experience. Now B schools in India like the IIMs do not ask for work experience. However work experience may increase the chances of admission .
Now coming to the Executive MBA program ,the minimum eligibility requirements are the same as points 1) and 2) as stated above in the MBA eligibility requirements.
The only difference is that in an executive MBA degree program , a candidate must have professional or managerial work experience post graduation for a minimum of five years. Most B schools require five years of work experience however there may be exceptions( as some B schools in India also acceot candidates with two years of work experience).
So as you can see , it is not necesarry to do an MBA for getting an Executive MBA degree. The only thing necessary is your work experience and the kind of work experience you have.
Hope this has answered your question.
Thanks
Hi Harleen,
No, there is nothing as such. Executive MBA is a one-year MBA program, esentially for people with prior work-experience. There are quite a few colleges across India that offer this course. For a thorough list of colleges offering this course, read up on Careers 360 using the link given below: https://bschool.careers360.com/tags/executive-mba-in-india
