If you feel that good branch will help you but placement records in other colleges are not good.so you can give first priority to college and then next you can choose good branch.Hope this information helps you.
All the best.
I would suggest you to think rationally, as it is a one time decision during Counselling and their is no turning back. This case arises only when, you have a choice between Lower Branches at Top Universities or Higher Branches in Lower Technical Universities. Whatever is the situation, you should first ensure the institutes you are considering have proper infrastructure, faculty and residential facilities and have good employer outlook with standard placements.
In case you are getting lower branches at Institutes at IITs, Top NITs or BITS Pilani, you may choose that, compromising on the branch, as you will get a lot more opportunities and rich exposure in whichever branch you are. The curriculum of the National Institutes though tough, is comparatively relaxed and student friendly, with long summer and winter breaks and gives you enough time and options like pursuing a Micro Specialization or Minor Degree in a Branch of your Choice besides majoring in respective Department. All you need is to find your interest, learn new skills and technologies and work on them, besides keeping up with the College academics and you can be assured of a good placement.
In case thats not the situation, and you are dead interested in Computer Science or IT or whichever branch you are getting at the lower institute, do ensure that the institute has good faculty, campus, facilties and average placements, since there is no point in going to a university with a higher branch to end up with no Job or Motivation. Of course if the institute is a NIT, good State Technical University like DTU or Anna University Madras or perhaps a GFTI like BIT Mesra or IIEST Shibpur as well as Top Private Institutes like SRMIST, MIT Manipal or VIT Vellore you may considering taking admission in them in higher branches.
Remember its not 2010, when whoever studied CSE or IT, landed up with Secure Jobs and gradually started getting On Site Opportunities and moved to the US. Our future will be saturated with engineers from all domains be it CSE or Mechanical, and you need to be the best of the crowd to get the best returns on this investment which you make in engineering education. Hence, you need to consider both the institute as well as the branch finally depending on your interest, in which direction you want to make a successful career. Choose Wisely.
