The Govt. Polytechnic, Hisar, was founded in 1992 with the goal of improving youth employability by providing them with the most up-to-date technical skills for suitable employment through technical education. Plant Maintenance and Industrial Electronics diploma programmes were started in 1992, with 15 students enrolled in each trade.

The Institute is around 40 acres in size. Teaching blocks, two Boys Hostels, a Girls Hostel, a Canteen, a Gym, a Playground, a Guest House, and Staff Residential Quarters are all located on the site.
