Hello I have completed my Class 12 with PCM and English from NIOS. After that, I passed Biology as an additional subject from NIOS. My aggregate PCB percentage is good. Am I fully eligible to appear for the NEET UG 2027 exam? and get admission into government medical colleges like AMU, KGMU, and BHU? Please clarify the latest NMC guidelines regarding NIOS additional biology students. Thank you!
Hello Dear Student,
Yes, based on the current NMC (Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023) framework, you appear to be eligible for NEET UG 2027 , provided you satisfy the required marks criteria in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. NIOS is a recognized board, and open-school candidates are not disqualified merely because they studied through NIOS.
More importantly for your case:
- You completed Class 12 with PCM and English from NIOS .
- You later passed Biology as an additional subject from NIOS .
- NMC has clarified that students may study an additional subject through NIOS , and such candidates can be eligible for NEET UG if the study is completed through an authorized institution and other eligibility conditions are met.
The recent interpretations of GMER 2023 indicate that:
- NIOS/open-school students are eligible for NEET UG.
- Biology studied as an additional subject is accepted under the current framework.
- Eligibility is determined by having the required subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English) and the prescribed marks, not by whether the schooling was regular or open.
As for admission to government medical colleges such as:
- Aligarh Muslim University
- King George's Medical University
- Banaras Hindu University
these institutions admit students through NEET-UG. If you are eligible for NEET under NMC rules and secure the required rank in counselling, your NIOS background by itself should not prevent admission.
One caution: NEET 2027 information is not yet officially released. Eligibility is governed by the NEET information bulletin issued for that specific year. While the current rules are favorable for NIOS and additional Biology candidates, you should verify the final NEET 2027 bulletin when it is published.
Hope it helps!
