Hello sir.I would like to take surgery in aiims. But am orthopedically handicaped.... Can I 0pt surgery???
Hey Syam!
Don’t worry, if your handicap is inclusive of only the lower limbs, you are definitely eligible for pursuing a Master of Surgery (MS) course as offered by the different campuses of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). You are even eligible for reservation provided you satisfy the qualifying and eligibility criteria.
As per the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2006, 5% of seats are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities or those who are Orthopedic Physically Handicapped (OPH) candidates . In most medical institutions including AIIMS, the reservation is provided on a horizontal basis across categories. Candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% are given first priority and if there are vacant seats left, then candidates with disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will also be considered. This is applicable for all the MS and MD courses. You just have to ensure you carry a disability certificate as issued by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board of State or Central Government Hospitals or Institutions.
So prepare without worries and give your best shot while appearing for the AIIMS PG medical entrance. If you clear the same with the required marks, you will definitely be able to join the MS course as desired.
Hope this answer helps. Wish you all the very best Syam!
