Hello Anurag,
As per the reules and guidelines of GATE examination, it clearly mandates that the candidate should have completed his bachelors or masters in any relevant science field. Furthermore, candidate in his last year of enginnering can also apply for the examination..
There is no criteria that a candidate should have certain percentile in order to apply for gate examination.
Now, CGPA are no doubt important as many IITs have norms in which they check the candidates graduation result and gate result before finalising his admission. For instance consider a candidate x scored very good in gate but had poor performance in graduation then chances are that he might not get the dream college.
Now, here's a fact. If you are preparing vigorously for GATE, then if you look upon it's syllabus structure, you will find that gate syllabus will coincide with your engineering syllabus and is prety much same apart from aptitude. So, by just reading for one you will get sufficient knowledge to give answers for both GATE and Engineering exams. The basic difference in study of gate and engineering is that for gate you have to study a subject veery thoroughly but for engineering you just need to look upon keypoints abd elaborate it on your own.
Hope your query is resolved. If in nearby future you need my assistance then do message me. I wish you best of luck in your future endeavor.
Hello anurag
You will be happy to know this that th ere is no minimum CGPA required to attempt GATE. But, if you qualify and apply for admission in masters program in any institute, then you must fulfill the CGPA/percentage criteria for that institute. As far as I can recall, it is not more than 60% or CGPA 6 in any IIT. IIT Delhi enforces 60% for general and 55% for OBC students. Most IITs just require a pass.
No cgpa does not matter if you scored good in gate exam but make sure that you do not have any pending backlog.
Hope this information is sufficient for you.
Thank you
