How can I become a data scientists
Hello
I finished my Masters in Computer Science last December of 2018. Here are some tips I can give you.
- Take as many courses you can in statistics. Regression and/or Time Series. If you already have taken those then take Categorical Analysis and Bayesian Theory. You need to get your hands on experience on SAS and R.
- Did you pass any Data Science certifications? Like Hadoop or SAS? How is your SQL and R programming skills?
- How about Machine Learning? Have you taken it yet?
- Are you doing your Master’s Thesis in Data Science area?
- How’s your GPA?
- Lastly, I am going to be frank with you. Is there any career area that you like beside working in the data science area? Getting a job in data science is extremely tough right now and I can’t land a job as a data scientist. You might have to start somewhere small and work your way up to be a data scientist. It will take some time.
- Try to get another internship in data analysis/data science area before you graduate. There are a lot of competition for data scientist jobs and employers are very picking when it comes with hiring a data scientist. Like I have said in my previous posts before, employers want a “wow resume” and a great GPA.
- If you really want to get a job in data science then maybe you should consider to go a really good school to do your Phd in Data Science. I don’t mean to sound harsh but I am letting you know my experience. I love statistics and programming but I might be going for Plan B which is going back to school to do my Phd in data science.
