How do I make a career in tourism?
Hi Sachin,
A career in tourism is a very interesting option as you get to interact with new people and visit new places as part of your daily job. As tourism professional, you may become part of the growing service industry that offers lucrative opportunities at different levels of your career. While tourism itself is a huge domain, there are multiple career options that are available for different specialisation in tourism. For example, Diploma courses are available for entry level jobs which includes profiles like travel operator, travel guide, travel sales, tour manager, tour designer etc.
The purpose of any such training is to make you professionally efficient in easing life of tourists when they rely on you.
Courses on post-graduate level like travel and tourism management offer better opportunities in national and international renowned travel and tour companies.
Further, the related career opportunities are also there in other areas like aviation, catering and other allied areas.
Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (Under the guidance of Ministry of tourism) runs multiple campuses and offers different courses at undergraduate and post graduate level. Many central and private universities also offer UG and PG courses in travel and tour management. For example, BHU Varanasi has MBA courses in travel and tourism. Amity University also offers such courses.
All the best!
