How do I prepare for the UPSC exam
Hello
Since UPSC is a long journey, therefore, it's essential to have monthly, weekly and daily plan for your studies else you would find that even after 6 months of preparation you won't be able to recall what you have studied or attempt question papers.
Before setting daily target you must first set your monthly and then weekly target. Don't be too ambitious in setting these targets. It's OK if you are able to manage only 7–8 hours per day.
You daily study should have following components:
Newspaper Reading
Ideally you should start your day by doing through the newspaper. It's best to read newspaper in the morning. Your mind is fresh and ready to absorb new information.
Intensive Revision
Revise what you studied 1 month, 15 days and 1 week back. Revision, if done well, takes less time but gives rich dividends.
Static Subjects
Go through HIPEG (History, Polity, Economy, Geography) standard textbooks as these subjects are highest marks fetching. Make sure that you have crystal clear clarity on these subjects.
Optional
Irrespective of what optional you have, you should daily devote some time to it. Even if you feel that you have an easy optional don't ignore it. Optional marks plays a crucial role in deciding your rank.
MINIMISE INTERNET USAGE
Internet surfing, reading random newspaper articles does not qualify as preparation. Period.
Your time on internet should be with a definite purpose. Ideally you should devote weekends for searching new information.
Writing Practice
You should daily allocate some time to writing 1–2 answers (GS, Optional) or attempting MCQs. This will prove very effective in the long run.
If you are able to maintain the above daily routine then you won't face difficulty in your exams.
