Mathematics would easily make it to the list of Top 3 optional. If you want to easily navigate the uncertainties of UPSC exam then Maths will provide the needed relief. A good performance in Maths alone can land you in top 100 rank.

The ROI ( Return on Investment) in case of Maths is the highest. You can expect 300+ marks just by attempting 425 (Yes, you can leave 75 marks paper completely!)

To give an example I secured 170 marks out of 240 correctly attempted in Paper-2. In percentage terms it is 71% which is very high.
