how is clinical engineering at iits ?What is its scope and placement?
Hello Saurabh,
seeing your question, I have divivded te answer in parts for your better understanding. T mae it clear, I wuld like to mention that only IIT Madras provides this course.
Scope
Depends on what options you are looking at.
If
your goal is to do a Phd and be in the academics line, then it is a good
option as you can get good exposure and recos from professors. But if
your goal is industry and job oriented, this is the last course you would
want to be in.
Over the past five decades, heathcare delivery has increasingly become technology driven - be it development of new drugs, vaccines or medical devices.
Innovative solutions to healthcare can be developed with a
cross-disciplinary approach with systematic training, in which, students
with a background in engineering are trained in biological sciences and
clinical practices.
Placements
The placement opportunities are excellent in hospitals as well as in
biomedical device companies. The scope for higher studies (PhD), both in
India and abroad, is also bright. All the students who have graduated
thus far from the program have been placed through the placement offices
and efforts at IIT Madras and SCTIMST; They have been placed in
hospitals, medical device industries, and some have opted to go for a
Ph.D., typically, abroad.
These full-time internships are taken up by all students in this program for a period of about 4 weeks in the biomedical / clinical engineering departments of various corporate hospital across the major cities of India. So far the following are the hospitals where students have gone for internship:
- Fortis Raheja Hospital, Mumbai
- Max Healthcare, Delhi
- Care Hospitals, Hyderabad
- Apollo Hospitals, Chennai
- King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai
hope it helps
Thankyou
