Hi Sanya,
In general, every competitive exam that focuses on current affairs can ask anything under the sky. There is no limit to knowledge. However, you can trace some patterns by solving all the previous MAT Paper.
I would suggest that you be well versed with last 1 year current affairs and all related topics. For ex: If you are looking at some demonetization in India news today you need to know about why demonitization came up, when, where, what and how of demonetisation. At the same time you should track into history to find out if it has happened ever before. Also, you may want to look at what other countries have followed it. This approach will keep you aware of cureent affairs even for clearing GD+PI. This is preliminary.
Along with this you can subscride to any coaching institutes material and read everything from there. Mostly important milestones, abbreviation, Dates (world environment day etc.), trade relations with other countries etc would be important. You should further solve every past MAT paper and prepare those questions. While looking at a question let's say "When is world Environment Day?"- Don't just look for the answer. Since it is a multiple choice question, along with the original answer there will be other options like October 2, Apr 17 etc. Google and look at the significance of each of these dates. That will widen your knowledge base.
The basic funda is if you have encountered a question first time, it's ok to not know the answer. But second time you should not get it wrong. Do this excercise for 1hr daily and within a month you would be able to answer enough MAT GK questions to reach that 90%ile mark.
Past three years curent affairs is generally asked but no particular limitations it cn be asked base don anything in past 10years as well.
Students must refer to Lucene Gk Book and Manormaa YearBook for Curent affairs. You can also read daily two newspapers and daily twonewschannels for preparation.
Hey Sanya.
For the MAT exam, you need to prepare the current affairs for the past 12 months atleast. The best source to do so would be any daily newspaper. The Hindu is considered very good for such exams.
Best of luck
