Hi Lijjat,
As per various media reports from 2017, JP Nadda, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, was quoted saying that the Union Government intended to set up 58 new medical colleges in the country by 2018. Out of these, atleast seven to eight medical colleges were expected to be established in Gujarat.
In February 2017, the Gujarat Government had first announced its plans to expand five of the six existing public hospitals at Tapi, Banaskantha, Amreli, Bharuch, Dahod and Panchmahal districts into medical colleges. The locations of the three new colleges were still being decided at that point.
Speaking to the media in July 2017, Gujarat Health Minister Shankar Chaudhary confirmed that the state government had given its final approval for setting up seven new medical colleges, which would increase the number of available medical seats in the state by 1,050. The two new locations which were added to the mix included Vyara and Dahod.
So as per these announcements made by the Government of Gujarat, you can expect atleast seven new medical colleges to be established in the state by 2018.
Hope this helps!
