To get any of the National Institute of technology, you must have a percentile more than 95 - 97 percentile.

As National Institute of Technologies are the top institutes that give admissions on the basis of JEE mains' score, the competition rate is very high. Considering the trends till now, to get admission into any of the top NITs, you should obtain All India Rank in the range of 1 - 5000 for some of the top NITs like NIT Trichy, Delhi, etc. and for other NITs, the closing rank may limit upto 7000 - 10000 or 15000 in some Institutes.

Basically, the admissions are provided on the basis of ranks. You will have to keep an aim to score percentage more than 95% in the examination to be on a safer side to get admission.
