Hello aspirant,
A candidate is allowed to give IIT exam twice a year for the next three years. After passing JEE Mains with a good score, candidates would be entitled to take JEE Advanced, which will be administered online for Mathematics and Aptitude and offline for drawing to measure sketching skills.

Well you have 3 chances for JEE mains (the one when you are in 12th and the other two chances are in succeeding years just after 12th )and 2 chances for JEE advance (that is when you are in 12th and the other one is just after 12th).
That only means you have only two chances , if you want to get admission in IIT.

So a competitor can appear twice every year for back to back three years.
