If you want to do well in JEE Mains, and ultimately JEE Advanced, do the following things:
- Make sure that your basics are strong. Start with NCERT books and fo through every concept. Solve the problems at the end of each chapter. The more problems you solve the more clear the concepts will become, and your problem solving ability will also improve. Once you are done with NCERT books, read advanced books, as there will be many questions outside board syllabus
- Take notes during study and note down all important formula - taking notes will help you focus during study and jot down all important points, as well as key ingredients of success, like any shortcut you may discover. The notes will be very handy close to the exam, as it will make revision easier and fast. Meanwhile, the formula sheet will help you quickly glance through them anytime you need to.
- Solve previous years sample and question papers to get an idea about type of question asked, weightage and difficulty level. It will also give you a realistic idea about the progress you have made. Just ensure that you have the timer on when you are solving a paper; it will help you learn time management.
- Take mock tests - it will give you an exam like environment. So on exam day you won't feel nervous or make mistakes under pressure.

Inorder to prepare for the IIT-JEE examination through self study. You need to make few things clear in your mind;
- Since you have preferred as a self study then you need to be through with the the syllabus well of JEE Mains of both class 11 and 12th of every subject of PCM.
- Don't take any topics lightly, and concentrate more on those topics from where JEE will ask the question throughouly.
- Follow your proper routine and time table in which you should give proper time to each and every particular subject.
- Don't try to come under frustration to someone's talk like cuttoff and all.
- Believe on yourself and your preparation.
- And lastly don't divert your mind from the preparation.
- After the completion of your syllabus try to solve previous 10 years JEE mains papers which will help you a lot to understand the whole scenario of JEE MAINS.
