I am in 1st year of btech by cse, so when should i start my preparation for gate ?

The sooner you start the better it is. A lot depends on your grasping power as well.  You should start preparing by familiarising yourself with the Syllabus and the exam pattern. Go through past years question papers. If need be then take up coaching. Solve mock test papers. The advantage of starting early preparation is that there is less pressure by the time you take the exam and you are almost well versed with everything. At each stage of your preparation evaluate yourself and see which are the weak areas and work on them so that the year you are taking the exam , you do not have any problem and you are able to solve the most difficult question paper also.
