I understand your concern about your application status. But there's nothing to worry about. You can change your category during the correction window.
The application process ends on 31st of December. Than during the period of correction window i.e 15th January to 31st January you'll be allowed to change personal details such as your category.
During that period, you can go to the NEET site and continue with correction of application form. You can change your category status from general to EWS there during this particular period.
But I'd like to suggest you that , you should avail your EWS certificate before the counseling process begins. Otherwise you'll not be allowed to avail EWS reservation and have to continue with general category rank. So, make sure to have the EWS certificate applied as soon as possible.
