To score good marks in GATE make sure your basics are cleared. You can make your important notes it will also help you in revision.
If you want you can join coaching but make sure you develop a basic idea of each chapter. You can also make a formula book.
You can solve GATE past year papers, complete mock test series for your practice. So, that you should be aware of your strength and weakness and work upon them.
