I am planning to reappear for my 12th board exams in 2026 because I scored only 70 percent in 2025 in the PCMC stream. I intend to take a drop year and prepare for the JEE in 2026, for which I need a minimum of 75 percent. Can I reappear as a private candidate for my second chance, or should I withdraw my result and appear again? If yes, how can I do that? If not, what options do I have?

Hi,
You can reappear for 12th board exams in 2026, as 75% marks is needed for the general category in boards to sit for JEE mains and advance. You don't need to withdraw your previous result, you can simply apply as a private or improvement candidate through your board. When you will reappear for the exam, you can increase your score and then the latest mark sheet will be eligible for the JEE.
If you are from the state board, then visit your board's regional office or website for the improvement exam.
For CBSE, you can fill out the improvement exam form online from the official website of CBSE. You can enroll as a private student with NIOS.
Hope it helps!!!
