You can still get hired, but you should expect more screening friction than a typical 2024–26 graduate. Your timeline is:
- Class 12: 2016
- 1-year JEE gap
- B.Tech EEE started: Aug 2017
- B.Tech completed: Jan 2024
- Since graduation: competitive-exam preparation
The important distinction is that your degree itself took longer than the conventional 4 years, and then you have a post-graduation gap. Some companies have hard eligibility filters, for example, TCS currently specifies limits on educational gaps for some hiring programs. But this is company/program, specific, not a universal rule.
