I get only average B-Schools, what should I do? Go for average B-school or should I prepare for one more year ?
Hello Kush
- Whenever you are in a dilemma for selecting a B-school, then the best method to analyse whether it will be worth to study in a B-school or not is to compare the course fee with that university's previous years placement statuses.
- It is obvious that no one wants to settle for an average institution because not just the money worth is important, but academic performance, practical approach for imparting knowledge, faculty, infrastructure, security and a lot many factors influence your decision.
- If you analyse your CAT/MAT scores and improve on your preparation by strengthing your weak area then you must keep striving for better result in your next attempt. Motivate yourself and take guidance from your teachers upon how you can brush up your preparation.
- You are working in a small private company which will be counted as one of your experience. Other than this you need to emphasize on social or co-curricular activities as they will add to your team work and organisational skills, and your CV will reflect how you utilized your year while preparing for entrances.
- You can start by looking for some volunteering programs, becoming partner with some NGO'S or Not-for Profit Organisations such as Aiesec. This experience will help you in your interviews for MBA selection. Final selection in B-schools depend on a lot of factors like your interview, your experience, your witty personality, group discussion and percentile offcourse, so your gap year won't affect much but volunteering experience will only add up your to your skills.
After reading the above points if you still feel that that your reasoning and quant abilities won't improve much or if you do not have time to prepare or not motivated to start all over again or family pressure or any other reason , then it is all your call to take admission this year in the best options available to you. But on the basis of my experience I will conclude by saying this, that one should not settle for mediocrity when there is so much excellence available in the world.
Good Luck ! :)
Hi Kush...
Answering your questions from bottom to top sequence, no this won't effect your final selection procedure perhaps they can ask the reason for the gap and what were the reasons for that particular gap.
Talking about the admission in B-Schools, I can't answer that particular question taking any of the above choices. Every decision has it's own pros and cons.
Now if you opt for the B-school you're getting , you may have regreat that you could have tried next year too. But this can happen that when you appear next year , the results may furthur fall down due to any XYZ circumstances.
So now Kush it totally depends on you and only you. Think and then decide for the same.
