I got 373 score in xl gate...is there any chance to get phd in iit. I belong to general category.

The gate score for direct PhD varies with department and iit.
For the new iits like ropar, jodhpur, Indore Patna, Mandi a gate score above 450/1000 with excellent academic performance during btech could get you a call letter form IIT for PhD interview/test.
For iit bhuvaneshvar, iit Hyderabad, guwahati, roorke gate score >620
For older IIT like iit bombay, iit Kolkata,iit kharagpur, gate score >750
