I have heard that civil engineering has no/less placements even in top colleges is that real.
From my knowledge it's due to the out dated syllabus. The skills and knowledge that any civil engineering firm need are not fed at many educational institutions. They still teach the same old syllabus.
Many of the PG's are working as lecturers only to feed their stomachs, not to enlighten students. If a lecturer says that he is interested in teaching, he must be able to produce minimum of 5 research papers every year. If not he is not fit for teaching. I am not judging lecturers, but I had seen more compassionate and worthy ones.
The solution which I find relevant is the private civil engineering firms should visit some engineering colleges and make the management aware of what they actually expect from a b.tech/B.E passed out. At the end of UG program they should conduct the interview on those skills and offer jobs to the deserved ones.
