Well, it was answered by many and I too suggest the same. Go for Engineering. After doing a diploma in ME, you'll have a lot of practical knowledge about machines.
Mechanical is like the mother of all branches. You'll have many options like Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering etc. B.tech/BE in Mechanical Engineering is found in many colleges in India and other mentioned are available in a few colleges in India.
If you go for Mechanical, then you'll see many subjects that you came across in diploma, but with a greater depth and more concepts.
