I m interested in drawing, sketching, fighting, fashion designing, army, sports, karate, self defence I m confused about choosing my field?
Hey Himani,
First of all, don’t worry so much, at your age, it is alright that you don’t know what stream is good for you and what you want to do in life, we all have gone through that phase . Now, coming to your interests, it looks like you are a multitasker with varied interests!
So, these are the things you can do in the future with your hobbies-
1. Drawing/sketching- if you are really good at drawing and sketching, you can further enhance your skills to become an artist. After taking arts stream (along with fine arts as a subject if you want), you can go for under graduation in courses such as BFA or BA in Fine Arts etc. But relating it with real life, artists struggle a lot in our country, hardly getting any recognition and mostly these graduates work as a teacher. So, unless you have a passion for arts and regardless of the money you want to be in this field, think about better options.
2. Fighting/Self-Defence/ Karate – I am addressing them together because they have an almost same career path. First, you need to gain as much expertise as you can in the field, like becoming a Master or a black belt and then gain experience. After this, you can become an instructor, open your own academy and very few go for professional fighting. But again, this career could develop even side by side with some other degree (as many people do) because there is no govt. institute that educates in this degree. And even those who are experts don’t have a lucrative career.
3. Sports- If you are really good at some kind of sports, then you could consider it as a career option. But again, you do not graduate in sport rather you do it along with your other studies. As a career option, its one of the best because you make your country proud when you win tournaments but it depends on how much hard work you do to reach that level. Look at the lives of our sportsman, see how much effort they put on everyday basis to succeed. And certainly, if you are good in any sport, it will help you to get a government college or a govt. job.
4. Army- again, a very honorable job to serve the country and, one of the best career options. Since a girl is not allowed to give NDA entrance, she can join the Indian Army under
• the Short Service Commission (Technical) Scheme, (after B.Tech)
• or through the NCC (SPL) Entry Women scheme (usually govt. colleges have NCC department)
• or through Joint Advocate General (JAG) SSCW Entry Scheme (after Law degree)
5 .Fashion Designing - it is one of the most popular courses in our country and is offered by many government and private institutes. In the fashion industry, you have various field such as designing, merchandising, managing, fashion journalism etc. that you can opt for. You can also go abroad for studying or for jobs. The future in this field is full of creativity but the competition is very high because like I said, many students opt for this course.
What stream to choose?
Now it depends on your interest in the academic subjects .
Only if you like Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology, go for science stream. Opting for science has its own pros and cons. Biggest Pro- a science student can apply for almost all arts and commerce courses and Biggest Con- all are very technical subjects and hence require so much hard work, you have to master both theories and numericals.
Commerce again has technical subjects such as maths, accounts, economics and business studies. So, if you are interested in these subjects, you should go to this field. This stream is closely related to the field of business.
Arts has more theoretical subjects like English, Hindi, History, Geography, Psychology, Political science, Home science to name a few. If you are interested in these subjects and go for this stream.
It often said, that science is more difficult or it the best or arts is very easy and doesn’t have much career options but such statements are completely false . If a science student is not good in his/her subject, life becomes really difficult for them. And if an art student is good in his/her subject, he or she can become more successful then a science one. Also, commerce student is not limited with only one field, he/she is needed for multiple fields and even in this field, jobs are in great demand. So, don’t fall into these lies!
What to do now?
For now, if you have to choose stream focus on subjects of your interest. You still have plenty of time to think about your career.
I hope I was able to clear your doubts. Still, if you have any question, feel free to ask or comment.
All the best!
Hello Himani
Seeing your interest and hobbies
I think you can go in various fields like:
Marshalarts; defence services;fashion designing course.etc.
But you should be well determined about your future because you can not combine all these .so you have to choose one and focus on it with full concentration otherwise all will end up in a mess.
You can do graduation ( in college their are various clubs from which you can improve your desiging ;painting and drawing and their is sports also.).
After graduation you can join defence services .
You can do fashion designing course
You can learn and than teach marshalarts.
So it is up to you what you like the most.
So good luck
Hi Himani,
So essentially you have listed out your hobbies. It's always advisable to choose a field where you are genuinely interested. Having said that please keep in mind about the job aspects of each.
If you are interested in drawing, sketching and fashion designing you can enroll yourself in fashion course and appear for entrances of reputed institutes like NIFT.
If you are interested in karate and sports, you can enroll yourself for ug courses in sports management or sports science along with nutrition and fitness.
If you are interested in army and self defence there's always a scope of appearing for various exams to get into defense services and army after 12th or graduation.
My suggestion would be fashion designing to you if you are inclined to give your creative side a chance to shine.
If you have a the determined edge to serve our nation or represent our country on various sports platform, you can take up sports or army services.
Let me know if you need further clarification.
