To become a successful fashion designer and start your own brand, choose the Arts stream with subjects like Fine Arts, Fashion Studies (if available), Business Studies, and English. You can also take Commerce for business knowledge. After 12th, aim for fashion design courses at institutes like National Institute of Fashion Technology.
The first step to become a successful fashion designer is to enrol in one of the top design colleges in India . Such colleges include the NIFT campuses, Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pearl Academy among others.
As per the eligibility criteria prescribed by these institutes, candidates who have passed class 12 from any stream are eligible for admission. So you can take any subject in class 11.
To secure seat allotment in these colleges, you have to appear for the
design entrance exam
conducted by the respective college and participate in other stages of the admission process such as situation test/portfolio review or interview rounds.
