If you want to become IPS Officer then you have to appear for UPSC Civil Service Exam, for this the eligibility criteria is passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you need to attain 21 years and you can apply even in the final year of graduation, the exam is conducted in three stages namely prelims, mains and interview. In order to initiate your preparation you can start with going through the syllabus in order to know what to read and what to skip, for strong foundation in the subjects you have to read NCERTs first and then move towards standard books, another most important thing is developing a habit of reading newspaper everyday, this is very important part of UPSC exam, and then afterwards, go through previous year paper, practice answer writing in advance, you can go through toppers answer sheet regarding this, they are freely available in UPSC exam related sites, practice mock papers and test series for your evaluation etc these are some of the steps I described in brief, if you have any other query,you can mention the same in the comment box below.
Firstly you need to complete Graduation. Subsequently you need to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Exam with full dedication and preparation.There is no bar on the number of tries, just keep in mind the age limit is 32, for appearing in UPSC CSE Exam. However it is advisable to pass UPSC by you are 28, for having a greater share of opportunities and rising up to senior positions later on in administrative career.
The UPSC Examination each year has three components or levels , the Prelims Paper, the Mains Paper and subsequently the final Interview process.
