In order to become a Software Engineer you can go any of the Engineering Entrance Exam.
JEE Main is the National level Exam & MHT CET is the state level entrance exam for the admission to undergraduate engineering program.
As per the eligibility to apply for JEE Main Entrance Exam, you should have passed class 10+2 with minimum 75% as a General category & 65% as a reserved category or you should be in top 20 percentile in class 12th from the respective board.
I would suggest you to appear for JEE Main & MHT CET if you belong to Maharashtra both of the entrance exam.

For becoming a software engineer you have to go for the course computer science irrespective of mhcet or jee.Try to get a seat under jee which is more valuable than mhcet.
