I will be appearing in my placements soon. How must I prepare to impress the recruiters so they give me the job?
Most importantly dont be nervous, try to maintain your composure as this is just the beginning and is a learning experience. And yes, life is not about impressing others but staying happy and truthful.
Best of Luck Shankar
Hi
Devam, it is common to get shivers during the placements. You must relax and stay confident.
Media or Communication industry is perceived to be all about communication, but it is more than that. Yes, media professionals must have the knowledge, general awareness etc. However, it is not enough. Recruiters are finicky about their choice of media professionals. That’s because the field requires a tremendous presence of mind, creativity and an awareness of the happenings. Recruiters also want people with future thinking capabilities, who are updated with the technology. In short, get updated with the skills the recruiters want.
Coming to your preparations to impress the recruiters, you need to have good communication skills. You must be able to express your thoughts clearly to the audiences. Talk formally with the recruiters and try to answer their questions with precisely with good relevant words.
Besides, good communication, you must also need to focus on being Innovati ve and Unique. See, Media is not simply writing or following generic topics. It is also more than politics or social issues, which is why recruiters want new and fresh elements in everything. Try not to be c lichéd with your skills and ideas.
Be presentable via your social websites. Sites like LinkedIn, Facebook etc come with detailed profiles of candidates with information about their skill sets, achievements and more. Moreover, recruiters generally check the profiles to get an idea of the candidates, their approach to life, social issues, ideologies etc.
Prepare yourselves with answers on what additions you will bring into the company, what are your plans for the company and how you are planning to grow and learn while working.
