First thing you do is go through past year cutoffs for various colleges. You can get a cutoff bool available in the market. That will make your job easier.
To get a better college, arrange your college preferences at the time of counseling in proper order;refer to past year cutoffs while filling this. Keep the college you want at higher priority.
Be alert till the end of the counseling process as many extra rounds are announced to fill vacant seats left.

The one thing that you could do is first compare the cutoff of the previous year with your rank if it suits you then go with the flow. See if you don't get placed in the first online counselling just do one thing follow the procedure for the offline too that is the physical counselling because if the seats are vacant then they'll definitely give you a seat over there.
