Hi Lalith,

Yes,you can join NITs if you have a decent rank in JEE MAINS;JEE ADVANCE is for getting into IITs.There's no need of appearing it if you wish to go into an NIT. But if by chance you may ge a good score then you can be admitted into IITs and in that your JEE MAINS rank will not be considered if you have an average rank.
