If you have taken waiting list ticket from railway station then you are not allowed to go and travel with it. You cannot board the train with it.

No, you can't travel in train unless your ticket gets confirmed. Especially now a days it's impossible to travel without ticket even in general section. It's been strictly said, without booking no one is allowed to travel. So you need to confirm your ticket before you start traveling. You can ask in enquiry section in railway stationa for further more details
