if student is Christian then any preference for admission
Dear,
Reservation is not based on religion. Just because Christians are minority they do not fall into the category to be considered as socially backward. Some sections of the Christians, especially converted after the coming of the European to India such as Latin Christians, Anglican Protestants, Anglo Indians, converted ST Christians are considered as backward and getting reservation under the category OBC (other backward classes).
Majority of Christians do not fall into the category of backward, especially the Syrian Christians and as such not eligible for reservation. But as per the new policy of the Central Government a section of them, who are financially weak may fall into the category eligible for reservations. The Union Government tabled the Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019 which proposed 10% additional quota for the economically weaker sections amongst the erstwhile unreserved category.
Hope this helps!
