Hello,
IELTS has two types of exams
- Academic: For candidates who wish to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, or if they are seeking professional registration, e.g. doctors and nurses.
- General: For candidates who wish to migrate to an English-speaking country, (e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK). Who wish to get admission below undergraduate level. This includes an English-speaking school or college. It can also be taken for work experience or other employment training.
The test format for IELTS academic and IELTS General vary slightly.
IELTS ACADEMIC TEST FORMAT
- There will be 4 modules in the test
- Listening
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Total number of questions: 40
- Total number of parts: 4
- Type of questions: fill in the blanks, MCQs, fill the flow chart, match the items, plan/map/diagram labelling, sentence completion, flow chart/table/note/summary completion/form completion
2. Reading
- Duration of the exam: 60 minutes
- Total number of questions: 40
- Total Number of Passages: 3
- Type of questions: Match the headings, True or false or not given, multiple choice, identifying information, matching features, matching sentences, sentence completion, summary completion, table completion, diagram label, short answer questions, flow chart completion, identifying writer's claim/views
3. Writing
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Total number of questions: 2
- Number of tasks: 2
- Task 1: You will be given a pie chart or bar graph or graph or pictorial representation you have to compare and summarize the data.
- Task 2: Essay
4. Speaking
- Duration: 12-15 minutes
- Number of parts: 3
- Number of questions: Vary

Speaking test will be conducted either on same day as Listening, Writing and Reading test or it will be conducted before or after few days of listening, reading and writing is taken. The exam center will inform you about the speaking schedule. Except for thr writing module all other modules will be same for academic and general. The overall band score range from 1-9. 1 being the lowest and 9 being the highest.
