I'm an MPC student and I want to become an IAS OFFICER. I don't know which bachelor degree I have to prefer.
I want to tell you that any degree or graduation/post-graduation in any subject is alright. For higher education, one should always pursue the subject which one finds interesting and is comfortable with. Academic career and interest should not be compromised for an uncertain and highly competitive career in civil service.
One should not choose an art subject for graduation with the sole intent of doing well in the GS papers in the UPSC exam. The simple and plain truth is that if you really have the potential to clear this exam, managing the GS papers to a satisfactory level is not a big deal. For the GS subjects like polity, economics or geography, extent or coverage is more important than depth. You should be in a position to write a decent answer on any issue that affects the life of an ordinary citizen.
I hope this will help you.
Cheers !!
Hello Bablu,
If you aim an IAS officer, I would recommend you to choose an easy graduation degree. This would help you to be able to give proper time to the UPSC preparations.
But, be sure that for clearing UPSC exam , you need to study for nearly 15 hours per day for 2-3 years.
And one more point to be kept in mind is to choose a degree which can fetch you some decent job as a back up plan.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Dear Bablu,
Graduates from any discipline are eligible to apply for the UPSC exam to become an IAS officer. It is about the selection of the subject, in prelims and mains which you have to decide by taking into account various parameters. There are engineers and doctors who also clear the civil services exam by taking humanities subjects. You should go through the syllabus and exam pattern and then decide which subject is of your interest and where you can excel. You can also go through the past years question papers and analyse for yourself in which subject you can perform well.
