In a school, 60% of the total students are boys. if 80% of the total students are absent on a rainy day, at least what percent of the boys were absent on that day?
Let number of students be 100, i.e. 60 boys and 40 girls.
Now 80% students are absent, i.e. 80 students are absent and 20 are present.
For least percentage of boys to be absent, all 20 present students should be boys.
Hence number of boys absent = 60- 20 = 40
Therefore percentage of boys absent = 40/60 x100 = 66.67%
Let us assume that there are 100 student in total
Then 60 are boys and 40 are girls
Therefore, ratio is 60:40
=> 6:4
=> 3:2
Given that on a rainy day, 80 student are absent.
So, no. of boy absent on that day is
80×3/5=48 (since 3/5 is boys ratio)
Hence, the answer is 48%.
Then 60 of them are boys.
Now 80% of 100 is 80.
Then 80 no of students are absent.
Then 20 of them are present.
Now we have to find the minimum of boys who were absent at that rainy day.
As 20 are present 20 boys can be present.
So 40 boys atleast absent .
Hence 40% boys are absent atleast
