In advanced you need to get below 5000rank in AIR to get a better seat in top IITs. If at all you are not getting better seat in IIT, with your mains rank you can join in NITs. In NITs if you wait till all rounds of counselling you will get seat in NIT Durgapur. If you are from same region where top NIT is located, you will be given more preference and can get seat easily

Both your ranks will be considered by the board . You just have to fill the choices and you will be notified if you are eligible .
You will have great opportunities with 8000 OBC rank .
So , just lock more and more choices you like and have interest in and you will get notified soon .
I am giving one example . From your general rank you will get notified from those colleges which has 33000 cutoff and also simultaneously you will be notified from those college which has 8000 OBC cutoff .

Both of the ranks play the important role as the AIR rank will help you get into the cut off the section and the category rank will help you get the advantage of the category in the admission.
